"Mirror mirror on the wall. Who's the fairest of them all." Snow White

Can we say times have changed? They certainly have. Since the 1920's we have been roasting our fair snow white skin. It was a fad and had remained a fad since. They felt the skin was healthier with a bronze glow. It has caught on except not in a healthy way. In fact sun damage can cause cancer and is the #1 cause of wrinkles. Not to rain on Jersey Shore's parade, but tanning is no bueno for your skin.

There is an article I wrote on alternatives to tanning in my Skin Care section. I give you 10 ways to have a summer glow without the sun. Also how important the sun is. Just not all the time. It's easy to get caught up in fads nowadays, but I find if we care enough we can change the fads.

In Japan they have skin lighteners in their beauty shops. While we have tanning products. Seems a bit odd right. Not odd at all. We love to fit in and tanning has helped us do that for years. It's almost as if the tanner you are the "hotter" you are.

When I was little I watched my mom lay out. I then started laying out at an early age. I would stop from time to time, but always felt better about myself/ more accepted the tanner I was. About a year ago a friend on Facebook posted that she wouldn't be enjoying her day going to the pool or a tanning salon, but rather the doctor. She had skin cancer. I was on my way out the door to the tanning salon when I read this and stopped dead in my tracks. I haven't gone since and I try to stay out of the sun as much as possible. Not only does it cause skin cancer, but it promotes wrinkles. Which I am good on both thank you very much. I would rather do alternatives to tanning.
